On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, we celebrated the inauguration of the Duqm Refinery, marking a significant milestone in the Kuwaiti-Omani partnership. His Highness the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman graced the event with their presence. Key figures such as Kuwaiti Minister of Oil, Imad Muhammad Al Atiqi, KPC CEO, Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al Sabah, Omani Minister of Finance, Sultan bin Salem Al Habsi, and Abdulsalam bin Muhammad Al Murshidi were in attendance, highlighting the project’s strategic significance.
The day commenced with an engaging presentation and speeches from Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) CEO, Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al Sabah, and President of Oman Investment Authority (OIA) Abdulsalam bin Muhammad Al Murshidi. Subsequently, there was the unveiling of a memorial plaque and a tour of the control room. Greeting the country leaders at the control room were KPI P & CEO, Shafi Taleb Al Ajmi, and OQ8 Chairman, Helal Kharsi. Chief Operating Officer, Abdullah Al Ajmi, provided the tour and showcased the refinery's latest technology and operational excellence alongside other Kuwaiti employees.
The event concluded with the official plaque signing by His Highness the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and a group photo with Kuwaiti and Omani employees working in The Sultanate of Oman. The Duqm Refinery stands as a beacon of progress, poised to boost energy security and economic development in our region.
